STARTER MISSION / WEB DEVELOPMENT

Build an accessible local-service website

Create a small site that helps someone find a local service and understand how to contact it. Use fictional service details for your public demo.

STARTING POINTBasic HTML, CSS and JavaScript
DELIVERABLEA responsive, keyboard-usable service site with clear information and tested links.

The build brief

Work through the requirements in order. Keep your test notes as you go.

  1. 01

    Define the main task

Choose one task: find opening information, compare services or use a contact route. Explain the audience and use synthetic contact details.

  2. 02

    Build the page states

Include a navigation, service information and an honest contact route. If the form has no backend, label it as a demo and do not imply delivery.

  3. 03

    Check the main task

Use only a keyboard, check visible focus and labels, then test narrow screens and every internal link.

  4. 04

    Record the handoff

Write setup steps, credits, your contribution, observed test results and remaining issues.

Minimum evidence checklist

These are self-checks. A checked box does not independently verify the work.

An honest project summary

A worked writing example, not a completed reference build.

I built the service cards and navigation. I checked the main path with a keyboard and recorded a narrow-screen screenshot. The form is a frontend demo only. I have not observed real users completing the task.

Before you call it done

A useful handoff makes the gaps visible.

  1. 01

    Attach real artifacts

Use your actual repository, test notes, dated screenshots or a setup explanation. Do not invent a result to fill a missing field.

  2. 02

    Explain your contribution

Credit a tutorial, template, dataset or teammate. State what you changed and why.

  3. 03

    Mark what remains unknown

Describe tests you did not run and evidence you cannot safely share. Respect source licenses and agreements.
